Passing a 1G Welding Certification Test - The Easiest Welding Test Or is 3G Vertical Easier?

Welding Certification tests are numbered by position and joint type. For instance a 1 G indicates a flat position groove weld. The 1 means flat position, and the G indicates a groove weld.

I saw a video the other day that advertised a  mobile welding lab that was used to train and certify welders.

A few students as well as the instructor were  interviewed and described the 8 weeks of welding training  that led up to welding certification tests in the 1G position.

Passing a 1G Welding Certification Test - The Easiest Welding Test Or is 3G Vertical Easier?

What?

That's right, 8 weeks of welding training per process to be able to certify in a 1 G weld test.

I don't get it. After 8 weeks of training in a welding process, why can't the welder pass some other positions like 3G and 4G welding tests

Did you know that a 3G plate test combined with a 4G plate test certifies a welder in ALL positions?

That's all positions. Like 1G , 2G, 3G, and 4G. as well as every position of fillet welds imaginable too.

A 1G welding test certifies a welder to weld in how many positions? One ! that's it ...just one.

You get a lot more bang for your buck by training welders to certify in both the 3G and 4G positions.

Another issue is that 1G welding tests typically don't have very good pass rates.

You know why?

Gravity. That's right., gravity is working against you and not for you. Gravity lets the slag flow ahead of the arc on a 1G welding test and if you are not careful, it can cause cold lap and slag inclusions.

Gravity works For you and not against you on a 3G vertical plate welding test

Gravity keeps the flux behind the arc. The arc is then allowed to do its thing and penetrate into the base metal. As long as you maintain enough amperage and a tight arc, things will go well on a 3G vertical plate test.

The AWS (American Welding Society) classifies the 1G position welding test as the easiest.

I disagree with that when it comes to beveled groove welds.

I believe 2G horizontal and 3G vertical welding certification tests have better pass rates when it comes to a bend test or x ray testing.

How to Pass the Social Work Licensing Exam (LMSW)

While I was studying for my LMSW exam, I often searched the internet for advice from recent graduates who had just passed 2011 social work exam. I kind of felt alone in my situation although I knew others were studying too! The Master's level social work exam (LMSW) is a 170 question multiple choice test, with only 150 questions counting toward the score. Also, the ASWB changed the exam in 2011 to reflect current social work practice. I had no idea if this was a good or a bad thing, but I was worried because the pass rate for the 2010 ASWB Master exam is 74.3% plus I also heard about social workers failing many times.

Oh no! I was never a good test taker, I have always had test-taking anxiety, and now I have to pass a standardized exam to become a social worker! There was so much material to study and the pile of books I had from my upcoming study course was overwhelming. I had no idea where to begin, so I waited until I started the study course offered by Adelphi University. The instructor suggested that we take a practice exam to determine what areas we need to concentrate on based on a percentage breakdown of the number of questions answered correctly on each topic. I was freaking out! I only got a 51~~I knew I had a lot of work to do!

The study course ultimately taught me to analyze each question by deciding if it was a situational or factual question. The next steps are to decide who the client is and what the clinician should do in the given scenario. Nearly all questions on the actual Master's level social work licensing exam (in New York) were: what happens FIRST, what happens NEXT, or what is the BEST choice to make (by the clinician). They all had factual information built into the question.

How to Pass the Social Work Licensing Exam (LMSW)

How to pass the social work licensing exam:

Don't over think the questions. They are not meant to trick you, and sometimes the right answer is obvious.

Ask yourself at every question - what is in the best interest of the client? No matter how reasonable other answers are, most questions focus on the client, not their family, doctor, or others needs and wishes.

Take a lot of practice exams. When I was ready to sit for the exam, I noticed a pattern in the questions and I began to understand what type of answer the "test makers" wanted. It is certainly not always what we would do in social work practice!

If it is possible, take as long as you need to prepare for the exam. I studied for nearly 5 months so that I could understand the information enough so that I did not have to memorize all of it. For instance, compare the problem solving model (acknowledge problem, define problem, brainstorm solutions, evaluate options, implement intervention strategies, and evaluate outcome) to program development (problem statement, goal/plan, resources, objectives, decide on program operation - evaluation tools, cost, usefulness of program, implementation, and evaluation). In my opinion, the steps are so similar that if I had a question related to either one, I would know what was involved in the process. I placed each similar topic on an index card and kept them paper clipped together. Of course, there are plenty of instances where memorization is necessary.

While I look for a social worker position, I have created a website to help social work graduates study for the 2011 Social Work Exam.

What is the Personal Potential Index Test - PPI Test? And How Does it Affect Your Education

The personal potential index test, or the PPI Test when abbreviated is a new Government initiative to better assess students who intend on moving on up to graduate or professional school.

PPI testing is to supplement your academic record with a more rounded description of who you are as a person rather than a student. The personal potential index test will give a better indication to future academic establishments of your personality and social development.

What Does The PPI Test Report Measure?

What is the Personal Potential Index Test - PPI Test? And How Does it Affect Your Education

The PPI evaluation test report will provide valuable information on six distinct personal attributes about yourself that will enable academic establishments to better understand you as a whole person rather than as just a student with a GRE score.

The PPI Case Test covers your personal integrity, your personal and work ethics, your abilities at planning and organization, your level of resilience and aptitude, the PPI test also covers your ability and willingness to work as part of a team and your leadership qualities.

The PPI prep test also covers your communication skills, both verbal and social and academic, it also assesses your potential for creativity and knowledge both academic and living.

How Does The PPI Test Work? Do I Sit An Exam?

You get to select those who will evaluate you for your personal potential index test, usually faculty members and course supervisors. They will evaluate you on all of the six topics discussed before. They will respond to 24 statements and after consideration will provide an overall rating for your PPI test.

Having a PPI evaluation test report should help to better feature students who are not so academically inclined but who have exceptional personal skills that would make them ideal candidates who would work hard and who might otherwise be overlooked.

How to Get in Shape For the Police Physical Exam

If you want to get in shape for the police physical exam you need to know what they're looking for and focus on that. Although I advise you to work on all of your muscle groups, you need to focus on passing the physical exam. Worry about the other stuff later, or just make it a 2nd priority.

The first thing you need to do is figure out what the requirements are for the exam in the department you wish to join. For instance, the New Jersey state police exam covers 4 tests: push-ups, sit-ups, 75 yard dash, 1.5 mile run. This means that you don't need to build on your squatting or back rows ability. Do you see what I mean? Prepare for the exam itself, don't just workout randomly. I'll use these tests as a reference in this article.

For the push-ups test and the sit-ups test I recommend following a 3 set training session twice a day. That's 3 in the morning and 3 in the evening. You don't have to go to the max repetitions on each set, but once every 3 days, do a session in which you do 1 max set of both of these and see how far you go. This will give you a clear picture of where you stand and also help you to improve at a fast pace.

How to Get in Shape For the Police Physical Exam

As for the 75 yard dash, you just need to do some and you can surely fit in 3 dashes a day at the very minimum. You don't need to break the Olympic record to pass, but you do need to be able to give it all you got for 15-20 seconds until you finish the 75 yards.

The last thing you need to do in order to get in shape for the police physical exam is to prepare for the 1.5 mile run. I suggest timing yourself each time you do so and to run this distance once a day at your convenience. It may take some time to get down to a passing time, but don't despair as the improvement can be rapid.

Finally, once a week do the entire 4 tests in succession with the 1.5 mile run at the end. This will simulate the real police physical exam and prepare you for it in the optimal way.

Practice Exams - Teacher Certification Exam For Math

I will be using the math certification exam as an example but the process can be applied to other subjects as well.

1) In my opinion, the best practice exams are those that are the most similar to the format, content, and degree of difficulty to the actual exam. Since prior actual exams are not available to study from you will have to do some research on where to find other resources. Your State Board of Education website may have some practice materials available as a free download and they will give you some insight into what the actual exam is like. They will also have information on all the topics covered in this exam. I would print out the list of topics and use this as a gauge to measure the effectiveness of a practice exam. Obviously not every topic will be tested on every exam but you want to practice on an exam that will cover the most topics on the list.

3) Check with your school or your alternative certification program to see what study materials they have available or do some research on the internet to see what materials are available. Talk with others who have passed the test and see who they recommend. Ask them how representative the study material they used was of the actual exam.

Practice Exams - Teacher Certification Exam For Math

4) Once you feel you are ready to take a practice exam, sit down and do exactly that, practice. For example, I knew that my math certification exam had 90 problems in it and a 5 hour time limit. I took those 5 hours divided it by 90 questions to get an average of about 3 minutes per question so I strove to answer questions in that amount of time. Not everybody has the time to sit down and take a 5 hour uninterrupted practice exam but striving to answer questions quickly and correctly in a timed fashion can go a long way in relieving the stress that most people feel when taking a test. Try to take it in a quiet room that will most simulate the test taking environment. The more comfortable you get taking practice exams in a quiet environment the more comfortable you will be when you are actually taking the exam. In fact, you can get to the point where you feel like you are just taking another practice exam which you have mastered many times, when in reality you are taking the actual exam with a positive and confident attitude.

5) Should you not pass the exam on your first try, please do not get discouraged. Look at this as a learning experience. Now you have seen an actual exam. Perhaps the material you had did not help you prepare sufficiently. Now that you know what the exam looks like you can go find some better material that will be more representative of the test. Use the topic list that you downloaded from the State Board of Education and check off each topic as you master it. If your preparation materials do not cover a topic, go out and get some additional reference material, it's always better to be over prepared than under prepared. Go out and conquer that exam the second time if you didn't get it the first time.

I sincerely hope that this article was of some use to you. Good luck and congratulations in choosing such a noble profession.

Welding Certification Tests - Structural and Pipe Welding Test Tips

Even though there are some pretty big differences between structural welding and pipe welding certification tests, there are also some common denominators. Here are a few tips that apply to both pipe welding tests as well as structural plate tests.

It is never a bad idea to call the test supervisor before your test date to get all the details possible. Ask questions before the test begins so that you will be clear on the expectations of the test supervisor get permission first, but try to get a piece of scrap metal to weld on so that you can get used to the equipment and to set the welding machine before you light up on the real deal. keep all the arc strikes in the weld so that they will be covered by the weld. No welding codes allow arc strikes outside the weld. keep grinding marks and chipping hammer marks confined to the beveled groove area . leaving chipping hammer pecks all over the place is like tattooing the word "Hack" on your forehead dont leave any slag on the finished product...file and brush, file and brush spread your stops and starts around so that they are lumped in the same area a little soapstone followed by a good power brushing makes for a weld that shines like new money

If you have never taken a welding certification test before, you may not realize what is at stake. Usually , getting the job or not getting the job completely depends on your ability to pass the test. No pressure...So be prepared to be a little nervous. Because like it or not, In the back of your mind you will think about breaking the bad news to your wife or girlfriend if you fail.

Welding Certification Tests - Structural and Pipe Welding Test Tips

You are gonna be a little nervous. Be ready for it. Even after over 30 years of welding, I still get nervous.

The best way to not be nervous is to be practiced up for the test. If you called the super beforehand and have practiced the exact test you will be taking, your chances of passing are much better and your brain will know it.

Good luck Welder.
